AFOA Ontario is pleased to announce an exciting career opportunity for a Chapter Coordinator to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. This remote position is open to candidates located anywhere in Ontario and offers a chance to support Indigenous leadership, capacity building, and financial management across the province.

About AFOA Ontario

AFOA Ontario is the provincial chapter of AFOA Canada, supporting more than 350 members throughout the province. We focus on advancing Indigenous leadership and capacity in the areas of:

  • Finance

  • Governance

  • Human Resources

  • Management

We do this by delivering workshops, training, and certification programs in partnership with First Nations communities and Indigenous organizations.

About the Opportunity

The Chapter Coordinator plays a central role in keeping AFOA Ontario running smoothly day-to-day. Working closely with the President and Board of Directors, the Coordinator helps shape and support our work across Ontario by:

  • Coordinating Board and committee meetings

  • Planning and administering workshops and events

  • Managing communications and member services

  • Providing executive and administrative support

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys organizing, communicating, and bringing people and projects together in a purposeful way.

Position Details

  • Job Title: Chapter Coordinator

  • Location: Remote within Ontario

  • Schedule: Full time, Monday to Friday (evenings and weekends may be required)

  • Job Type: Permanent

  • Salary and Benefits: $60,000–65,000 annually, with pension and benefits

  • Reports to: President and Board of Directors

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Provide executive and administrative support to the Board of Directors

  • Research workshop topics by engaging with the Board, communities, and organizations to identify needs, goals, and objectives

  • Plan, coordinate, and promote chapter workshops and events, including:

    • Facilitator and Board arrangements

    • Registrations

    • Participant and venue requirements

    • Evaluations and follow-up

  • Prepare briefings and reports on workshops, including:

    • Revenues and expenses

    • Participant numbers

    • Lessons learned and recommendations for improvement

  • Build and maintain relationships with regional and national staff involved in similar education and training initiatives

  • Report monthly to the Board of Directors on progress, issues, and upcoming activities

This is a remote position, and you’ll be expected to work independently while staying connected to the Board, members, and partners across Ontario.

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who brings a blend of education, experience, and commitment to Indigenous communities. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A post-secondary diploma in Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Knowledge of and familiarity with First Nations culture, languages, history, and communities

  • Three or more years of experience working with Indigenous organizations or communities

  • Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders

  • Proficiency with:

    • Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet)

    • Zoom

    • WordPress

    • Canva

    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with sound judgment, discretion, and follow-through

  • Willingness and ability to travel within Ontario on occasion
